What to Expect at our First Birthday Portrait Sessions
The studio session typically lasts a little over an hour. We begin with the posed & semi-posed pictures and end with the optional Cake Smash. Your child’s wardrobe for the session should consist of clothing of your choice for the first “nice” photos (you are welcome to bring several outfits), something for the cake smash that you don’t mind getting messy (ideas include: just a diaper w/cover, overalls, tutu, shorts, etc) and something clean & comfortable to go home in. We will have a few different backdrop sets designed for your child based on your color & style preferences. As with all Nutmeg sessions, family and sibling pictures are always included at no extra charge.
Cake Smash Add-On
The session is topped off with an optional messy & fun “Cake Smash”. For hassle-free planning, you may add on a 6″ round custom-designed cake which we’ll have made to coordinate with your child’s wardrobe colors and theme (please notify us of any food allergies). We have a sink in our private bathroom for easy clean-up. The Cake Smash add-on is an additional $75.
We'll be in touch to discuss the styling of your cake smash session. We have some adorable sets & themed designs in our studio inventory and will work with you on your vision. We typically provide the backdrop, flooring and basic props. We'll have you bring cake smash wardrobe, desired accessories and/or other theme-specific decor.
Planning a First Birthday Bash?
We are available to photograph your child’s first birthday celebration at your home or party venue. Our on-location style is more candid & photo-journalistic in nature. We’ll roam the party capturing guests interacting, games & activities you have planned, the messy cake portion of the event and of course, family photos. An additional fee applies for non-studio sessions.

Pricing & Collection Options
Sessions require a $200 session fee as well as any add-on services or travel fees. Your session photos will be available for viewing in a private online gallery about 2 weeks after your session is complete. At this time you'll be able to purchase whichever Collection you'd like in our Standard Pricing menu to complete your experience. Digital images are available with paid Collections.
